[ lydia is so very thankful this is a text and not a phone call, because if it was, peter would be able to hear how her fangs are practically scraping against each other. she's in the bathroom, a preemptive measure in case she did wolf out a bit (and lord knows she did once she got this text back) and she's not necessarily the happiest person. ]

He did. It's funny, you know, because I remember telling him that none of us were going to clean up his face when he fell asleep in, I don't now, potatoes and I told him to sleep. He's pack and shouldn't be like that.

And I know how much he likes me, if I said sleep, he'd at least try to do it. I'm not you, but, I have to wonder why he fell asleep in his lunch if I told him to go to sleep.

[ And then the clincher. ]

He smelled of a different pack. It was disgusting.

[ lydia, like stiles, is allowed a certain amount of leeway when it comes to keeping in line. they're his, solely his creations. and lydia, bless her, is going to be one to watch. none of that fighting her instincts nonsense the others still wallow in. ]

No, he shouldn't. Although if you're hoping to find out where I kept him so late, I'm going to have to disappoint you-- I had him home at a respectable hour, little mother. If Stiles had a sleepless night, it wasn't something I did.

[ lydia can kind of understand why they would fight things. jackson is an omega and after being an alpha at school for so long, the change is rather hard to make. scott, well, he's scott and that should explain everything. stiles just, well, she appreciates how he is, even if it makes him stupid. but lydia understands that the best way to actually achieve something as a werewolf is to embrace it. the sooner you know what you are and how to work it to your advantage, the sooner everything is magic. ]

I'd only be a little mother if I was an alpha female. The alpha female, actually, I'm just your beta worrying about one of the others. Did Stiles ever tell you that he gets excitable when he's taken outside for things at night? We all know he's naturally a little twitchy but it becomes so much worse when you do that. What did you even need him for?

[ lydia sometimes dreams of the day that happens. in the beginning, she'll admit that even the idea that she was now a werewolf bothered her, but nowadays she finds that thinking of a time when she will be the alpha. she'll have this pack that peter's made under her control and it'll be giving everyone what they want correctly. it's a nice image, and one she takes particular pride in. ]

[ by the time when she's strong enough to make a real run at his head, peter likes to think she won't want to. even his little prodigy doesn't understand, not yet-- what it feels like to be part of the pack, not the loose framework they have now, but real pack. there's a reason most challenge come from outsiders, or madmen. ]

In some ways, yes. But in some ways, you may as well still be human. You're taking to it well, but don't assume you understand what it all means yet. I don't doubt you'll be one of the first to find out, but you aren't there yet.

Jackson, unlike the rest of you, understands how to say simply yes to his Alpha. And Scott-- well. I think you've hit the nail on the head with that one. As for the rest you can tell them, Ms. Martin, to call me with any issues and skip the editorializing.

I should remind you: don't push the limits more than I can accept, because we both don't want to return to a state of martial law within our pack. I'd like to be generous and work by coalition, but that doesn't make me any less your Alpha. Forgetting that would be a mistake.

I did, yes. As for why-- you did something I felt deserved thanks. That is generally why people say thank you in the first place.

[ there's a chance that it'll be like that. that lydia and the rest of them will feel like a real pack. that this is the family they want, the family they'll protect (stiles and her already know that they need to protect the others). but for now, lydia thinks she can disconnect herself enough from peter, her alpha to kill him when the time is right. ]

I'll tell them. I promise. And any issues will be dealt with. I hardly need to bother you with teenage issues, do I?

I can't forget that you're my alpha. But a good beta knows how to push limits. You like Stiles and I because of it. I worry for Stiles and what he does because of it. No need for the martial law, we'll be good.
